I recently came across an excellent article by Sean Murphy, Associate Editor, at Supply Chain Management Review. The article extols the virtues of a non-profit called VICS (Voluntary InterIndustry Commerce Solutions).

VICS working with member companies to improve supply chain efficiency and effectiveness, has established a new subscription service known as Empty Miles which allows carriers and their clients to coordinate their shipping with other carriers who just might want to load their cargo onto trucks that would normally be travelling empty!
